Free hotel staff training · Front desk

Hotel front desk training that holds up at 3 PM on a Friday.

Free lessons for front desk agents and the managers who train them: service standards, the vocabulary of the desk, the room-access checks that protect every guest, and what to say when a guest is unhappy.

14 free lessons, 3 hours of training in total, 1 with a certificate. No account needed.

Start in this order

A starting sequence for one person or a pre-shift rotation for the whole team. Every lesson stands on its own.

  1. Guest Service Standards (10 min): The four ingredients of an elevated guest experience, how to anticipate what a guest needs, and how to catch a service slip before it becomes a complaint.
  2. Hotel Terms & Acronyms (12 min): Every hotel term and acronym a new hire runs into, in one plain-English A-to-Z list. Must-know terms are starred, with worked examples for ADR, occupancy, and RevPAR.
  3. Guest Room Access (10 min): Who may grant access to a room, the two checks every front desk agent owes a guest, and the tactics people use to talk their way past both of them.
  4. Guest Complaint Resolution (12 min): The LEARN framework for complaints: listen, empathize, apologize, resolve, notify. See one complaint handled two ways, with two very different outcomes.
  5. Guest De-escalation (12 min): The LEAD framework for angry guests: listen, empathize, adjust, deliver. Plus the words that help, the words that hurt, and when to stop and get help.
  6. Front Desk Sales Training (12 min): Revenue is a team effort. How the front desk, housekeeping, and every other department spot opportunities and turn one-time guests into repeat business.

What a new agent needs before the first solo shift

The desk is where the hotel’s promises get kept or broken. Start with the service basics and the language of the job, so a new hire understands a walk, a folio, an OOO room and an ADR before anyone asks. Then the two checks every agent owes a guest before handing over a key, and the ways people talk their way past them.

When the conversation gets hard

Complaints and angry guests are part of the job, not a sign of a bad agent. Two lessons give a repeatable approach, LEARN for complaints and LEAD for de-escalation, with the phrasing that calms a situation, the words that make it worse, and the point where an agent should stop and get a manager.

Turning check-in into revenue

Upselling is not pressure; it is offering the right room to the right guest. The sales lesson covers scripts for check-in, when an upgrade is worth mentioning, how to read the guest, and how the desk and housekeeping spot opportunities together.

Certificates available

Completion certificates your staff can keep for the training file.

Run it as a pre-shift huddle

Pick one lesson, give the team ten minutes, then ask one question: where did this happen at our desk last week? The lesson sticks when it is attached to a real shift.
