Free hotel staff training · Maintenance

Hotel maintenance training for the systems you answer for.

Free lessons for maintenance technicians and chief engineers: how the life-safety systems work and what sets them off, the chemical and exposure basics, and the guest-room rules that still apply when you are the one holding the tools.

13 free lessons, 2.7 hours of training in total, 2 with a certificate. No account needed.

Start in this order

A starting sequence for one person or a pre-shift rotation for the whole team. Every lesson stands on its own.

  1. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) (10 min): Your right to know what you work with: reading the 16 sections of a safety data sheet, labeling every container, and finding yours before an emergency.
  2. Eye Wash Stations (8 min): Which station your property needs, where to find it, and how to use plumbed, gravity-fed, or bottle units correctly in the first seconds of an exposure.
  3. Fire Sprinklers (10 min): How sprinkler heads work, what sets them off by accident, the difference between wet and dry systems, and what to do in the first minutes of a discharge.
  4. Fire Extinguisher (10 min): When to fight a fire and when to walk away, the P.A.S.S. method, what each extinguisher type is rated for, and how your building's fire alarm works.
  5. Bloodborne Pathogens (12 min): Treat everything as infectious: gloves, handling soiled linens and body fluids, your free Hepatitis B vaccine, and what to do if you are ever exposed.
  6. Guest Room Access (10 min): Who may grant access to a room, the two checks every front desk agent owes a guest, and the tactics people use to talk their way past both of them.

The systems you are responsible for

Fire sprinklers and fire extinguishers come first: how a sprinkler head works, what triggers one by accident, the difference between wet and dry systems, what each extinguisher type is rated for, and what the first minutes after a discharge or an alarm look like for the person everyone turns to.

Chemicals, exposures and the sheet that tells you what to do

Safety data sheets, eyewash stations and bloodborne pathogens cover the day-to-day hazards: reading an SDS before you open the container, the fifteen-minute flush rule, and handling sharps and fluids found during a repair.

A guest room is still a guest room

Maintenance enters more occupied rooms than any other department. Guest room access covers who may grant entry and why, and the drugs and firearms lesson covers what to do when a repair call turns into something else.

Certificates available

Completion certificates your staff can keep for the training file.

Pair the lesson with a walk

After the sprinkler or extinguisher lesson, walk the property with a new technician: every riser, every panel, every extinguisher tag. The lesson explains the system; the walk makes it theirs.
